I’ve seen multiple posts on sanding/buffing the side cases and I’m currently working on that. But I haven’t seen anything on cleaning baked in stains on the “engine block”. I’ve tried degreaser and a green sos pad to no avail. Any other ideas? thanks!

Maybe @Mailman will chime in on how he went about it.
You rang? 😎
First I cleaned it, to within an inch of its life. Degreased it completely, scuffed it up with 400 grit wet sand paper. Cleaned it up again, gave it a final wipe down with acetone and sprayed it with Duplicolor high temp engine paint. DO NOT USE THE CLEAR COAT, IT WILL YELLOW.
And here is what it looked like.

That is beautiful! Thanks for the reply

The low life neer do wells among us (me) spray the can in a jar and brush it on the cases. couple tin coats works well.

I just Googled brush on High Temperature engine paint and found this product. There are probably others out there as well. That pint can is a brush on, it’s a good brand too.

bbbBut the real thin paint in the spray bomb goes on thin (less brushmarks) just repeat with a couple coats where needed, changing brush direction.

Madness was brush painted years ago, might have gotten a touch up or two in the last 10,000 miles. I can guarantee it's had gas spilled on it a few times. Just a shot from the shed where she's in winter slumber mode.

It was time to move the battery charger to a different bike anyways.

Is there a color code on the Duplicolor engine paint ?

Save you an engine pull from the frame to do a paint touch up on the cases...I really like that idea! 👍

Just be aware these engine paints need heat, so if you are painting bits that don't get hot, like carbs, you'll have to stick them in your wife's oven. Wait until she goes out though. I found 200c for an hour did the trick for my carbs..

Yeah, mine gets tire of that and parts in the freezer too.

Duplicolor makes 2 shades of silver engine paint.

1615 and 1650(I think it is) both very close in color but one is (I think) the 1650 is too dark for Yamaha and Honda stock color.

The high temp paint from Eastwood that mailman posted works great and comes in a few colors. I used it on the knockoff exhaust and once heat cycled it’s tough stuff.

Eastwood also makes a variety of high temp 2k silvers that dry rock hard and are chemically bulletproof. They do have some metallic in them so if you want a factory look they are a little off. Color is correct but have a smidge of metallic.

I used it to paint this motor.

Also, as mailman stated the duplicolor clear will yellow over time. I believe that’s because it’s not all that tough and lacks UV inhibitors.

On my cb motor I used the same duplicolor as mailman but cleared it with spraymax 2k clear which won’t yellow.

For all the methods above, have a cheap small sponge brush close by.As your top coat flashes and obviously not to far dry to not flow, you can very lightly drag the sponge brush over the surface in the area of brush marks or spray faults.Be slow and patient.Test panels are worth the time. Not always the magic bullet, but it does work.
