Cutting the rear loop off. Safty issue?

Hey fellas quick question.
To get the look i want for my cafe build ('75 xs) , i need to cut the rear finder loop off. I plan to cut it right before the rear shock gusset. So my question is, do i need to weld an additional bar across to reinforce the two shock mounts? Or could i just leave it be after i cut the loop off?

Most weld in a rear loop to clean up the rear end and add some structural strength. Others have gotten away with just chooping the end off and running it like that. Its your choice.
