Popping on decel is usually a lean indicator. If you've changed things like exhaust and air filters without re-jetting, that could be the cause. Or, the pilot circuit on your carbs may be getting plugged or partially plugged. Another cause could be an air leak around the carb mounts or a leak at one of the exhaust connections.

I bought the bike with open exhaust. Just put on the xs.performance air filters for the bs34's. Thanks for the.input 5twins. Happy 4th
Silly P.O.s, lol. This is why we love to hate them. The BS34s came from the factory set up lean even for the stock bike. Any modding like has been done to your bike absolutely requires some re-jetting. You'll need to have a look inside your carbs to see if any jets have been changed. They will require both the mains and pilots stepped up. The usual routine is one up on the pilots and 2 to 3 on the mains.
