I have never seen anything "quite" like that on an XS.
It sure does look like someone went to the effort of casting them. Then bent the end out and welded on the peg mount, then had to add that brace and reweld.......

You can see the evolution of technique from the mitered & welded bend on one to the hot bend on the other.
Get them cleaned up and dull nickel plated then use them with pride.
