I remember these from back in the 60s: The WA police had BSA 650s which were capable of a shade over 100 mph, the bureaucrats saw the Hondas could do 110, so sold all the BSAs and bought the Hondas. Trouble is by the time they outfitted the bikes with all the police gear, the Honda's top speed dropped to only 90mph.

I find sideways vacuum slides very curious. Probably a fascinating story about carb casting, float configuration and syncing.
