I'm replacing brake lines and saw the whole rear reservoir with the line on Mikes XS for like $9, I didn't know I was ordering a mini reservoir. Look how small this thing is.

Yep. It's not like this system was designed for a two/four piston caliper to slow a Hayabusa or anything. Besides, it's not as small as the one on my '71

Yes and in fact you only really need have that capacity or less to make most systems work.
The extra is a safety measure.
Look at anything on race bikes and they are super tiny.
