Need Help!!!!!

Just bought a beat up 1979 xs650G and going through the engine. Everything looks good just minor stuff,but as I was reading the manual on putting it back together I noticed there was a step that said make sure half rings are positioned. The thing is I only have one of the half rings and can't find anything about them on google or parts schematic on crankcase. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Here is a pic that shows what I think you are talking about and if so there is only 1 of the half rings. Just make sure that it is installed so that it engages both crankcase halves.

Thanks for the help. I believe that its part #29 (washer lock) and there is only one. I feel better now. All I have to now is wait for the gaskets and seals and start putting it back together. Thanks again.

If your bike is a 79 then it's an F model not a G. G was an 80.

Could be a 79 Sll, could be reading the ID tag as month and year, (like the guy that has a 71 XS2), instead of going off the ID chart.........Could be lots of things without the right info or a pic for others to help him Id his bike
