new noise from my engine

Hi, having ridden my '78 for 800 miles since I bought it i know how it normaly sounds but after the last ride of 80 miles it now has a jingly noise. This can't be heard while riding but is very noticable on tickover. It sounds like the large gears behind the kickstart have backlash but is a lighter but loud sound. I have recently changed oil from 20/50 to 10/40. The next to be checked will be tappets but I don't think it's them rattling. Any ideas will be welcome as this is my first XS and it's a good bike.

Yes and checked it again yesterday, about 1 to 2mm movement.

IIRC that is not unusual and I think you pinpointed the location, the starter gears can jingle if the bendix spring is weak or something along those lines. I don't believe it's anything other than annoying.
