I decided to do the gusset mod on another one of my late type stands today.
It's fairly quiet at work, so I've decided to fabricate a stand for my XS1B too (as I don't have any centre stand for that bike)
From looking at the frame (which unfortunately I don't have here) I know that the early stand is narrower, and the LH leg is parrellel to the RH leg, not splayed out as on the later bikes.
Desperate measures here have involved drilling 16mm holes through 22mm solid steel bar to form the pivot tubes, and sliding 20mm electrical conduit inside 25mm conduit, then crushing it in a vice to get the correct 20x30 oval profile for the main legs.
Desperate I know, but facilities and materials here are sadly lacking.
What I could really do with is a photo of an early type stand taken from above, ( like the first photo) showing the correct curve of the tang.
I believe it's a little different from the late models

Some pics. If you need something specific let me know.
I will suggest making it 1 inch shorter. The back wheel will still come off the ground but it will take 75% less effort to get it on the stand.

Many Thanks !
I'll be getting my hands on a genuine XS1 stand next week, but the tang seems to have been replaced by a large bolt, welded on, so those photos are going to be a great help sorting it.
