points vs electronic 80/81motor

i have 4m4 motor according to the chart is an 80/81 but has points when did they make the change over? does this sound right?

In the U.S. electronic ignitions started with the '80 models. Some other markets continued to use points.

Or could be the TCI fell out and the PO retro fitted points. See if there is a magnet in the rotor.
