Yes the clutch cables do brake.
You can buy a new cable and replace it.
It's not to hard to replace it. You can get one from mikesxs

Well if you have to go into the clutch here are some more videos I made for that.
If you can post pix too thatwill help as well.
the one piece rod is an upgrade but I don't see the 2 piece rod making a popping sound.
i also don't see how it would break maybe some thing to do with the clutch basket
