Can someone tell me why there is a need for the bearing sleeve/spacer for the sprocket side of the rear wheel?
RearWheelBearings.jpg
(#20).......Why didnt yamaha just use a bearing with a 20mm ID bearing?? Also, where might one find this spacer? thanks

or if someone could be kind enough to measure theirs i could just turn one down at work....thanks

It takes up the slack between the bearing and part seven. It corrects the ID of the bearing to match the axle.
650 Central had them at one time. Easy, quick and cheap solution.

Thanks weekendrider.....just tried calling....not open till monday unfortunately.......not like i can ride anyways

You find in in the bearing you took out.
Somebody had to say it.

haha i wish it were that easy leo....problem is that i bought the damn wheel minus the bearings.....somebody's already started project kinda deal.

For the sake of posterity here are some measurements.
Inchs and mm. And to make sure you get your exercise, one you will have to stand on your head to read.:wink2:
If you need/want another measurement let me know.

Very useful info WER! two thumbs up.
For those with stiff necks
spacer dimension.jpg

bearing spacer #21

Yamaha part # (obsolete) 90387-20166-00 COLLAR

From 650 central site

Rear Left Wheel Bearing Collar

No longer available from Yamaha, this shouldered collar fits in the left side
6305 bearing to reduce it to 20mm. It replaces part # 90387-20166-00
All years.

#DCEN90-38720..... $26.00

AFAIK it was used to allow use of a standard bearing size large enough to handle the high loads on the sprocket side of the rear wheel. The bearing and THIS collar are the same for all years and models of the XS650 mag and spoke wheels

This #20 spacer can also be scrounged from TX750 and some XS500 rear wheels.

It doesn't?

The dust cover #24 is a light press fit to the shoulder on Spacer #23 they are usually found assembled.

Just a tiny rant here......I've always thought that the axle nut is on the wrong side of the bike, just as the alternator is on the wrong side of the engine.

easy peasy just flip axle, and swap adjusters, done. alignment marks will be on bottom. I've gotten bikes a PO had assembled that way. Alternator swaps; a bit tougher.

Thank you weekendrider, just found this old thread and exactly what i needed. Apparently i decided i didnt need one and throwing it away would be a good idea.
