I took a pic of the O at 12 and then what the shifter forks looked like. The other pics are when I moved the O and the forks being shifted. My question is, should I disassemble or leave alone. I bought the engine disassembled other than the forks and possibly for good reason. I’m not much of one to go chasing when I do not need to. It seems to shift fine to me. Any help and thoughts greatly appreciated on determining if I should let it be or disassemble!

I have not heard of these being problem
Personally I would take it apart and look for wear
Feeling for play in shift arms on axle and look at contact surface wear on contact point.
I like to replace springs in the places on the shift mechanism
Not heard of problem with them either. But I did that.

Reason being I would hate myself if I reassemble the engine and get problems after a few miles
I would check how the first 2 gears contact surfaces looks.

it looks clean and fine .but this is not an exact science and depending how confident you are taking it apart and getting it back together
My guess without seen pictures of the contact points It can be OK.

If it shifts OK its your choice cant se any wear and they are not wobbly on the axle
If you know mileage or have other info fex Pistons / Cylinder wear can help the decision
Personally I would take it apart and look for wear

Not sure what that means

I took a pic of the O at 12

I believe the “O” is suppose to be at 12 when in neutral…

Still not sure about the O
There are adjustments Possible on the shifter mechanism please Check there for the service manual for your Year

Here is some pics…I took your advice and glad I did…I discovered that a cotter pin was about to break, so I’m going to replace them all. The rest of it looks good to me except one of the forks where it meets the drum has a little bit of a rough spot(look at last fork pic) but I think some emery cloth would clean it up.

Difficult to have an intelligent opinion based on Pictures
On pictures
4 and 6
There is something inside the bore that can be a wear or a light reflection

Parts looks clean
I would guess OK but again one needs to feel the play

On other machines the forks can bend.

You are correct about it being a wear…it’s very light feeling and and that’s the one that I said I would take a little emery cloth too.
