I have my forks apart and I was wondering if the spring is stock. It looks to be a progressive spring and from my understanding the stock xs650 springs are not. Any help?
Stock springs are progressive. They ride nice but are usually too soft if you're like 180 lbs or more. Adding an additional 1" of preload could help. That's about the most you can add without risking coil bound springs under heavy compression.
Glad to help, so do you have stock or aftermarket length?
I can tell you from experience (done this to 5 different bikes), Progressive brand fork springs REALLY improve the front end handling of these older bikes. Best bang for the buck.
