Damn. Around here my sunflowers get to around 6" and the deer clean me out in one night.
I put bird netting around them until they were too tall for the deer to reach. Even then, they'd nibble on the leaves.
That flower is HUGE D.E. ! 
Years ago I bought a packet of giant sunflower seeds and helped my granddaughter plant them behind our house.
She thought it was great fun, every time she came over they were a foot or more taller than the last time she saw them. We just left the seed heads out there for the birds.

We have sunflower fields just down the road from us. Hundreds and hundreds of acres. Pretty cool when they are in bloom. All facing the East. They don’t get much more than 3-4’ tall though. Once they go out of season they look so depressed, all looking down at the ground.
That’s one mighty big flower.
