Venture forth.

Damn..sorry..well if you sell the beemer and the venture..you might have enough for a downpayment on a Hardley..ha ha..just kidding...
Theres no reason to buy brand new..theres a glut of used bikes out there...The last time i counted on my local CL..just the 1st page... all bikes forsale..120 listings per page..70 were Hardleys...

Surprised me too.
The older Yamaha ventures are more nimble than the later Star models.
OK less portly. Seriously I preferred it's road manners. and it's a LOT smoother.
If it stays prolly split the brakes up go back to conventional both front by hand rear by foot. I am adapting but it's not natural for me, I'm a mostly front brake guy, have to get used to seriously using the foot.

I rode a Moto Guzzi for a little while. My right hand was connected to a strong Brembo single caliper. Consider there are a lot of big Harleys with only one brake up front. The brake pedal was connected to the other front brake and also the rear that was well proportioned. I adjusted to it quickly. The only place I found it very difficult was steep downgrades on gravel forest service roads. Other than that, maybe it wasn't such a bad idea.

I could hear Bob nagging on me from 2000 miles away..

Look what I found in the rack! A new Shinko 120/90 18 rear tire date code 2017, right size for the front of the Venture and rated for 750 pounds O weight, so on it went. I think it was going to go on the back of Madness then I changed my mind. Even Ole gggGary was leary of those sidewall cracks and since it looks like this will be the touring mount for this year.... Shinko 777B reinforced rear bout $100 so that's going on order soon. Hmm burnout party??

Should be cake, the Royal star venture would hold 80 all day long. Crossed Wyoming AND South Dakota in one day that included a flat and repair.
Got rid of the "highway floorboards" and installed some highway pegs I had, seem better all around. Was kinda worried about dragg'n those boards.

Won't know about high speed for sure til the rear tire I just ordered gets installed. And grabbed a new windshield also. Gotta move the GPS next. But had fun the other night just path finding my way via unknown county roads to Allison's campsite.

My ST1300 has linked brakes and quite honestly, I have never really noticed any odd effects from them.
All I do notice is that when I drop anchor, that thing stops RIGHT NOW!!
I hope never to learn how effective the ABS system is - but I’ll tell ya, that motorcycle has more hydraulic lines on it than the space shuttle. I am a hydraulics specialist but I hope that I never have to get into that system.

I’ll bet that would make bleeding the brakes challenging. Gary’s Venture too...with the linked brakes, that’s a lot of air to get out of the system.

Hmm I was surprised to hear this ..I would not have guessed it..
those 1st gen venture Royales definitely not the same bikes as the 2nd gen..in which there was a 6 year hiatus in production...No way could these be a longer production run than the XS650...but then again i believe the VMax holds that distinction

Yes, there is about a 10 step process for bleeding and while it does work, it is pretty involved.

BTW - I liked your barn Bob!

No ABS so that's simplifies things There is a bleed port up at the steering head 'sposed to make linked brake bleeding easy. Found 2 long enough to do the front braided lines in the bins. But think I will give this linked system a good try out first.
The beemer K1200 had linked ABS and lots of horror stories about bleeding but mine blew brake lines, so redid it all and the bleeding went lickity split..
