What Gauge wire?

Up to me ears in rewiring my '77 to an '80's ignition....trying to wed the different harnesses.....studying charts till I'm crosseyed and brain weary on the terminology of the different parts.
The smaller the number the larger the wire.
OK, heavy short wire from the battery to the solenoid, 8 gauge?
The wire running from the battery/solenoid to the key switch appears to be 16-14 gauge?, a bit bigger in diameter than all the others.
Tomorrow I get this right or strip it down and start from scratch.....nah, too much time invested. Bugger!

On my rewire I used the stock battery cables from the battery to ground and battery to starter relay. from the relay to starter.
From the battery through the main fuse to the key switch I used 14 ga wire, from the key switch to the other fuses I ran 14 gage wire. From the fuses to where ever, I used 16 ga wire.
On some of the lower draw stuff like the LED tail/brake light, LED turns you can run 18ga wire. I wouldn't go much smaller. Easier to damage by pinching or abrasion.
