On Monday, however, the Antonov Company announced in a tweet that the rebuild project had already begun, with "design work" already in the offing. While it had estimated repair costs, the company predicted a bill of over €500 million ($502 million) to get it back in the air, promising more information "after the victory."
Already the company has around 30% of the components needed to build a new one, it announced.

Reminds me of a co worker I had in the 70 ies he had bought a BMW 520 or something in Germany.
A couple of years old only.
He had no Insurance and did some Sporty driving lost control and went out into the woods.

Came out unhurt from the Forrest he said The only thing usable after the crash was the tanklid.
The rest was scrap
Had to ask the Boss for a loan for another car needed at work.
Not sure there is a tank lid on that Aircraft that can be used . I cant see that happen getting that heap up into the
Air --Nor find anyone dumb enough take a seat in it .. As they say in Mafia Movies --" Forget about It "

This is insane it makes it 2 aeroplanes that can be scrapped .
Putting that kind of money into this .. having other problems at the time to put it Mildly

First off, the "work" that has been started is preliminary engineering work. In other words, slidin' the ol' slide rule around and see if the facts and numbers add up.
No one's ever accused the Antanov co. of being stupid... They'll wait until the shootin' stops before breaking out the tool boxes.

That was an early idea, but they pointed out that so many parts were unique to each aircraft, there would only be a limited swappability.
These were never designed as a production aircraft, just a couple of one-offs.
Of course it will. Just hit it with some old R&M orange fast cut lacquer compound (no need to color sand it first) then finish it off with some 3M Perfect-It III, Mirror Glaze the swirls out and wait for the Air Worthiness Certificate.
They got there work cut out for them

Ironic, since sounding convincing reading any crazy thing is their whole job.

Everything you ever wanted to know about this amazing plane. A supersonic 2x the speed of sound, nuclear equipped x5, strategic bomber. It was quite a plane. Interesting that it had three separate crew member cockpits, each with their own ejection seat.
