Interesting motorcycles, not XS650

It's getting crazy round here.

You’ve been searching for a DN-01 for a long time. Finally found one huh? Looks to be in perfect condition. Gonna keep it for a while? The Mrs. looks pretty happy on it! 😃
Edit: I see it also has an improved windshield over the stock unit. I hope you’ll post some riding impressions, the transmission is supposed to be pretty unique on that bike too, I’m interested to hear if you like it. ( Look at me handing out homework assignments 😆 )

That bike - deserves a good look. First glance, it's old, but then you notice the rim discs. That unique fork arrangement looks like pure phantasy but then you start mentally drawing in the straight lines of the trail and rake run . . . so you're buying into it. That bike might be a runner not just a show bike? Not really my thing but also buying into that brass steam punk cool.

That a re-purposed Honda/Kawasaki block in there?

Pretty awesome build! Motor is hacked CB550 with beamer trans...🤩

Interesting indeed.

I will say that drive shaft geometry would be a problem at high speeds. The way the Hooke joints (aka "U-joints") work best is when the input and outputs are aligned - i.e., parallel. Otherwise, there will be a twice/rev pulsation in the output shaft speed which will be at best, tiresome and at worst, will tear the guts out of the final drive and/or rattle the riders teeth right out.

I guess function isn't really the point with many of these custom builds though.....

Is Alison trading up?
Honda DN-01 She's thinking, hasn't ridden it yet. May do a bit of a review on the goofy thing. Put about 100 miles on it so far. Lots of different about it.
My guess is her Radian is the better choice. That Radian really is a good machine for a small/medium sized rider.

I could be dead wrong, but I don't think we ever got the DN1 here in Canada - so I know nothing about it.

Could anyone give a brief description?
  • engine type and displacement?
  • weight?
  • shaft or chain drive?
  • ABS / linked brakes?
It looks kinda nice in red - but is this the bike that usually came in matt black and was sometimes referred to as The Honda Batmobile?
