OK....Trying not to repeat: I had a lot of difficulty trying to find sources for metric threaded brass straight male barbed tubing fittings on this "western side of the pond", so to speak.
Tried the adapted M8 x 1 tapered thread brass grease zerks sealed with Teflon tape.
It worked....sort of....but I was concerned about the reliability of the seal both to the drain plug hole and to the tubing in road use. I came away wanting the face seal of a proper copper washer both to the brass and the drain plug hole flat die cast surface. Also a longer tubing stem with the sharp edge of a tubing barb seemed advisable.
For reliability sake, the M8 x 1.0mm thread to 1/4"-28 NPT 3/8" tubing barb works great but the two piece combination comes in a a cost just under $10 per unit and is a bulky space eater.
At last, I found a US Manufacture source; MEM-CO. Fittings, Inc. Hampstead, New Hampshire for this metric threaded straight male barbed brass tubing adapter fitting. http://www.mem-co.com/ They make a variety of interesting fittings including some listed small size straight threaded adapters (pages 20, 21 & 24 of their online catalog) and the needed. M8 x 1.0mm straight male thread to both B6 and B7 (8mm) barbed tubing adapter as part of their F Series Brass Barbed Fittings. Call out is M8x1.0B7. MEM-CO does not sell directly, ratherl indirectly through their national distribution network. You may have to call them to find which distributor for your area, as I did. For what it's worth, I've ordered a quantity which will be made to order and delivered within 4 weeks from Coast Pneumatics, Anaheim, CA
My intention is to assemble the final water trap prototype units for testing and get them out to a variety of national areas for in use testing. It will be as a kit to members of this forum primarily. This may seem a bit strange but among my discoveries related to ethanol blended gasoline fuels is that the variety of fuel blends and additives for various areas is incredible and one should not assume consistency in amount of ethanol or presence/absence of any of them. (ie the trap will have to stand up to all varieties)
I'll advise here of the final kit product definition and detail in about a month.
If anyone is interested in participating, please let me know as I'm building a first come first in list to whom this first run will be available PM if you're interested, reference BLUES WATER TRAP please. Remember: For Mikuni CV BS 38 Only (at this time)
