So I'm the new owner of a 82 xs650 and I'm loving it.
However....I somehow managed to get myself into a situation already.
So in the process of taking off the sissy bar on the bike my buddy managed to break the stud that holds the right rear shock while tightening the nut down. (it looked pretty rusted)

(the pic below is a reference not actually my bike)

Is that bolt/stud welded to the frame? Looked like it could be, in which case what are my options to fix that, ugh

Hey critic! Way to go with fresh thread here!
Your upper shock stud was indeed welded.
Do you have a friend that's a good welder? Or know a good welding/machine shop?
May have to cut it off and weld on a fabricated stud...

There are ways around that. If you don't or can't drill it out,and weld in a new stud, try drilling, and tapping for a shoulder bolt that fits your shock.
