Phyber, sorry for the slow reply. I've been driving all day trying to get down to Florida to visit my 92 year old dad.....he's in pretty rough shape and I try to visit him every chance I get. Because at his age.....he might not be around the next time I get a chance.
OKAY.......I've PMed you about the bags. Paint is no problem and I love the fact they have the mounts.....that's a plus.

Hi Gordon,
all a dog needs to take on a trip is a bag of kibble and a squeaky toy.
My dear wife needs all the room on my Velorex's luggage rack and behind it's seat for the "bare minimum" of her stuff.
I'm left with a medium set of soft bags for bike repair stuff and the bike's luggage rack for my kitbag.
And you can't fool me with those three XS650s you list, that's a BSA hiding behind the Velorex.

I haven't paid for them yet but I'm set up for a set of these. Gona need some paint and decals to make them match the '75 but all and all I'm happy.
Two many???????? is that what that is??????? what's the hose coming out the back???
Fred......I have a lot of BSA unit singles.....too many according to SWMBO but what's a woman know about such things.

Sure looks like it to me. That hose would be a drive cable, like a thick speedo cable.
The sirens I've installed in the past were all rear frame mounted, on a pivot, and by pressing a lever with your heel would swing a friction wheel into contact with the rear tire. Kinda like old bicycle generators that rub a friction wheel on the tire.
Never seen one like this. Must be some new-fangled design...

Looks like that cable goes back across the engine then appears to cross the swingarm. TwoMany, maybe it is driven off the rear wheel?

Two many...?????.....were those hard bags (the red ones pictured) a Yamaha factory accessory? It seems to me I have seen parts numbers for them. IF anybody would know it'd be you.

I worked primarily for Honda, plus some for Harley, Triumph, Bultaco.
Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki were the *other* guys.
I have some memories of 'Hondaline' accessories, and a few other OEM suppliers.
But Yamaha factory accessories? I think 5twins and 650skull would be the goto guys here.

Okay.....I dropped the coin on a set of these (thank you Steve) and will post a photo to this thread once I have them mounted. I suffered a bit of buyers shock but once I thought about it.....I feel like it was a fair price. I do know I'll keep my eyes open at swap meets from now on and snag another set if the price is right.

Heck, 5twins probably has a BUNCH of 5x8 color glossys to go along with his answer....you gota LOVE that.

I did hold the mounting brackets up to the bike but will have to remove the luggage rack (I think the luggage rack will fit once the bags are in place) to fit them and I could tell that one way or the other (maybe slotting the front hole?) I can make them work if the holes don't line up perfectly.
The MAIN reason I'm posting is.......notice on the label. It mentions "GENUINE YAMAHA ACCESSORIES"

just a note that several years ago a guy in the UP had a set of NOS bags and brackets for a 75 XS650 with the metallic black paint and decals so they "did" exist. Last year there was a somewhat ratty full dress 75 for sale in the UP that had the bags also.

First of all I want to thank everybody for their help with this.....we all learn from it and that's a good thing.
I'll have my bags back soon and will get them mounted and share some photos.
I was contacted by a forum member who directed me to another forum member that had posted photos of his set of bags mounted on an XS650B. The bags were purchased in 1975 along with a brand new XS650B. Come to find out the fellow actually worked at a Yamaha dealer at the time and he says.....his bags were from a XS750 because bags weren't offered for the XS650.
I love these kind of puzzles and will keep after it until I feel warm and fuzzy about the outcome.
Does anybody out there have a set of bags with a label (as pictured on this thread) that mentions the XS650???? If so, would you be so kind as to share a photo?

I ended up with two complete sets of bags and mounts. I had the red set you see on this thread painted to match my 650B model and I FINALLY got around to picking them up today and...... got them mounted. Working 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week gives a fellow little time to wrench.
The bags and mounts are for the XS750 and weren't a straight bolt on for my bike. I had to drill one extra hole in the bag and two extra holes in the mount. (for each side)
Here's where I'm getting started.....notice the really nicely painted mount???? Once I figured out I'd need to drill a couple of extra holes in it.....I put them up and brought out the ratty set so the painted ones can stay intact.
Here's what the ratty set looked like. One end attaches to the upper shock mount, and there's a bolted connection to the rear rack.
Now I got a bit lucky ( not 5twins lucky....but lucky for me) and found the second set on eBay, The fellow wasn't listing what motorcycle they came off of.....just had them under vintage hardbags and I got them so I'd have a spare set AND this neat little section that connects the two mounts.
I like the look......and see no reason to take them off while I have the bike. I like to carry spares and tools and this is just the ticket.
They ended up NOT being cheap.....the decals alone cost almost twice as much as my Plastic Coleman Cooler Bags but I think they were worth saving.
I didn't have time to take any glamour shots....I had SO MANY honey do's to try to finish
while I was trying to work on the bike at the same time.....I'm beat but happy with the way they turned out.
