How low can you lower the froks?

OK, first off I know this isn't what most would build. So before the "purists" call in an airstrike on my garage, Any and all work to this will not be permanent LOL!

I am planning out my next 650, (1980 heritage special, mag drum rear). I have decided to go japan style. Planning ahead I know I need to lower the bike both front and back.

My question is, how much can you lower (cut the springs and add spacers) the forks with the stock fork tubes (like in the attached photo?)

3" lowering kits seem to be the biggest drop offered. That would leave you 3", probably a bit less, of fork travel. Good luck with that, lol, lol, lol, lol.

Thanks! 3" it is to start. I love Hugh's parts (I have a number on my current built) but I'll fab my own lowering kit

I used Hughes 2" drop on my Special and it is a tad much. I think 1 1/2" would be about perfect. Hugh said it would be a simple case of just cutting the 2" spacers down to 1 1/2 and I might do that the next time I get into the forks.
I'd be wary of the 3" drop...
