Hi, all...

Been busy of late, and can't get here from work any more for some reason - odd because my other lunchtime bike and guitar sites are still accessible... wonder if it's automatically flagged by the domain name or something - but will try to get in more from home. Hope all are well!

To much snow... too cold... trying to recall what my TX looks like... :(

Been checking out some of the "babes" threads at work? That'll probably get your tech department to block the site.

When I was on holiday in the uk this site was barred from the library, it came up that it contained pornography:wtf:

You know, jay, this is the second mention that I have seen here of that. And now I'm wondering if reports that the site contains nudity (does it, really?) might have something to do with the fact that, virtually overnight, I can't visit here from work any more.

I don't favor censorship, and I understand that there's a strong cultural link between "bikes and babes", but I'm wondering, in the interest of the vast majority of us who come here to look at and discuss bikes, if Travis and the mods might need to visit the notion of having a clause in the "Terms of Use" that stipulates consideration of the general population when posting. Just a thought.

Edit: I just noticed that this has already been addressed in the TOU. But I suppose I won't be looking in from work, sadly.

As far as this site being blocked at your work place, it could be that they are monitoring internet usage and if too much time or too many bytes of information were downloaded from the site, they'll ban it. Most of those filters scan for words and categorize a site based on that. So if porn and nudity and babes are mentioned too much, it might get blocked (if so, that sentence didn't help the situation). Or it could be that it recognizes that the site is a forum and will block it much like other time-wasting social networking sites like facebook and myspace. You don't have access either of those at work do you? It might have been blocked for reasons other than a few pictures with nudity. Unless of course you were looking at them at work while they were monitoring.

Well, the last possibility you mentioned isn't the reason because, one, I didn't know that the site contained nudity other than naked bikes and, two, I'm an old enough dog with enough nicks in my ears to know to be careful where I click, and when. Guess it depends on the parameters of the filters.

hmm. Next time you are at work, try seeing if you can get to www.facebook.com

Or maybe try frequenting another motorcycle forum for awhile at work... (one that doesn't have nudity) and see if it gets blocked. Or do you already do that?

Could be the swearing too I guess. That might trigger some filters.

Well, I know they block Facebook, Myspace, Ebay and the like... and not without good reason. I'd never visit those from work anyway. But at lunch I visit the odd guitar forum, and my e-mentorship forum to check on my peeps there, and I know that I can still get to the Garage, Mike's, etc. So there's something about this forum... ah, well. Can't control it, so I'll roll with it.

Might be just the fact that because there are a couple of pictures of nudity it comes up that it contains pornography, or just the fact it's a good site that lets you say what you want to say, I wrote on another forum,

give them time to sort their shit out.

the next time I looked it had been transformed to:

give them time to sort their nuts out.
