New Chain and Sprockets

Rear sprocket is a 32 tooth and I am getting 3500 at 60MPH, standard size tires on mags and stock gauges (now).

The clincher and final analysis was having the '77 geared 18/32......taking that out on a loop and then taking the 17/32 geared '83 out on the same loop. Total different ride and not pleasurable on the '83. Tomorrow I'll reconfirm the value of the '83...........

Value reconfirmed after replacing the 17T front sprocket with the 18T and going for a run.
An observation- 40MPH @ just under 3K RPM in 5th gear.....roll on the throttle and a smooth increase in acceleration. Much lower RPM requires a downshift as it seems anything less than 2500K RPM and the bike will bog with this gearing. There is one tight, hair-pin curve going uphill in one of my loops that requires a drop into first, for safetys sake.
These bikes are becoming some kind of Zen extension of my physical being the way they respond......HA!

Sounds like an 18T front sprocket.
