Just picked up what I can is most of a 76 XS650. Cool little bike, great forum so far.

Comes with a bin full of parts I will get into shortly.

Frame has been chopped off behind shocks.

Drive sprocket rotates in neutral, so that’s inspiring. Going to pull exhaust and inspect cylinders, if all looks well; will pull plugs, soak cylinders and see if she turns over.

This is my first true vintage tinkering project, my tinkering has been with several frame up restorations of motocross bikes and I’ve done a couple top to bottom builds on older seadoos. Should be fun.

Forks and tank are from a 74/75. PO has swapped the forks from side to side. The little bracket, top facing forward, should be behind the forks to take the Brake tube. Doesn't make much of a difference unless you want to run a Factory speedo.

Tank Gas cap is the tell for a 74/75 Tank. Again unless you have a set of carbs then it won't matter all that much. 76 carbs changed from 74/75 and the jetting has to be done to the model the carb came off. 74/75 had twin cable pull. 76 changed to a single cable pull and they were co-joind by a top plate and an angle bracket

Looks like you got good bones for the resto in your hands.
All help is here if needed just ask.
The Tech section is a font of knowledge too.
