working on rewiring a '78 , what type of starter relay can be used ? any others besides stock?

They all pretty well serve the same function, just come in different size/mounting configurations....other than that its plug and play....2 wires and two cable posts.

+1 bout any one will work. Some of the fleabay ones have built in blade fuses. Solenoid helps for searches

I've done a bit of reasearch on starter relay prices. For the money Mike's is about the cheapest that will fit in the stock location. Most other replacements from other applications can be to big to fit.
