My wife and I both love Indian food and I’ve always wanted to learn how to cook it myself. After looking into it a bit I came to the conclusion that I needed a tandoor oven to do it right. So I built one! It’s based on a pretty common design that others have used. It’s a 20 gallon trash can (new) two 14” terracotta flower pots and some grade 3 vermiculite. It works like a champ. Gets up to about 900f. Cooks chicken in about 6min.

Ooooh... curried chicken and rice. I'll be right over.
That's one thing I loved about London, at least back in the 70's.... Indian curry shops were as common as Mexican joint are over here.
Walk up out of the tubes at Piccadilly and your eyes would start watering. :geek:

That’s very interesting! So I see a fire inside the clay pot, but I don’t understand quite where you cook things?
There is no cooking surface, your meat gets skewered and you just stand the skewers up in the oven. You just slap the naan (flatbread) up against the inside wall of the oven.
