I see where what I have will fit a 76 xs500 /74 tx 500/ 78 xs 750Now for my (final ?)
I have new Barnett clutch springs that are used when putting the outside clutch cover on
The new ones I have are quite a bit longer than stock
I've been searching to see what should exactly fit as I think what I have are to long
I gotta keep looking If I try and use what I have I'm afraid of stripping out the screw holes trying to get them started

What I have now are (stock) 34.63mmSounds like you got the spring set for the '80 and later 6 plate clutch. Exactly how long are they? The stock ones for your clutch are about 34mm long. Aftermarket H.D. replacements are often longer, sometimes as long as around 42mm. The later stock springs used in the later 6 plate clutch are almost 43mm long and they go in just fine.
So the springs for the 500 would be the same for a 650 ?Looks as if it may be the wrong springs
there is a compatible list

Yamaha XS650 Twin (1975-1979)
Clutch Spring Kit
Part# 501-58-06045
So I have the right one Just seems so long
Maybe use 2 or 3 of the old springs and screws to snug it down and then 1 by 1 put in the new ones
II saw where they were talking about the new springs only being 15% moreIf your bike is in that Span 1975- 1979 it seems right Barnett is not a beginner company --- well known
On the other hand I have an 1980 with the same Strange locking washer.
Just because they look a little longer it is not necessarily so that they are stiffer at the installation.
Careful at the installation and a function test
Looks right
