Without going back through this thread.... and prolly sounding like an idiot... if it's an 8 plate conversion, why the order for 7 in your example. Do I need to know what year clutch I have?

Yeah Marty did the proof from 5twins math, that the 80 up 6 plate clutches can be converted to 7 plate leaving that 1/2 plate springs etc in place. Martys bike went from a slush o matic to rock solid zim zam bam.

Gary,
How long so you see this clutch lasting for, life wise. I ordered one from you and admittedly haven't gotten the motor going yet. Just debating on picking up a spare while available

Haven't heard of anyone wearing one out yet, not even signal flogging one racing a side car!
Think this has been my third season in Madness a 750 conversion. No issues. With a look back, think I've done over 11,000 miles on Madness with this clutch.
Dang, some salesman I am. :pimp:

I never wore out the stock clutch plates in nearly 60,000 miles. My slipping issue was not due to wear as I could tell. The plates are still in spec. My XS1100 has the same stock clutch plates as the XS650. After over 100,000 miles it's still working fine. I have little doubt that these new plates are better. I just acquired another set as the first feels great!

Clutch sets sent to Texas, the United Kingdom, and California.
Thanks to all who have trusted me with their hard earned money!

I bought and sold out of 25 sets in 2020 and ordered 40 more sets as of 2-2021
This is known to work in 74-79 clutches later clutch baskets need to be machined to remove the half plate and spring and accept 8 plates. I have not tried a set in an early basket yet.

This resurrects the old ippytattoo 8 plate conversion. I talked to ippy about this before and he said go for it, he wouldn't jump through the hoops again. I put a set in Madness and could not be happier. You need the 8 new (thinner) friction plates and one extra stock steel plate assuming your existing steels are good. I can prolly do about 15 sets from plates I have here, you can also order them new from Yamaha and maybe I can round some more up from flea bay or member stashes.
$100 to your door for 8 friction plates. please put your 2 cents in the poll and feel free to reply, good, bad, or MEH.
I think ippy installed or sold about 12 sets, he did sell out of what he.
I have not done it but Ippytattoo turned some later (80 up?) hubs to remove the "half plate shelf" and steel spring to make the 8 plate conversion. That might be something I could offer also.
Here's ippy's previous thread. http://www.xs650.com/threads/alto-8-pack-clutch-kits.33399/#post-338934
These plates are not a big seller for Alto, they only had 7 plates total in the US, and no plans for a production run. They also fit some other Yamaha's and Suzuki GS1000's
Hi, I would like to order this clutch set. How do I contact you?
Thanks, Mike
