Motor vehicle Insurance

No MoTs or inspections in Ireland, well except if you get stopped by the cops on an obvious crapheap and they'll check the brakes, lights, etc.
There have been various moves put forward to introduce yearly or bi-yearly motorcycle inspections, but they've always been pushed aside as not worth the hassle, as it would mean setting up specialised centres for bikes and awarding another testing contract to some Government Minister's pal - and the total sum involved with the small profit at the end doesn't seem to be too interesting to anyone yet.
$$$$'s. The main reason for inspections. Florida has no inspections of any kind, yet we have no more accident's per capita than any other state.

I agree. I’m not calling for inspections. I just pointed out some of the rolling garbage on the road. It’s very tough for people living in poverty to do better. Inspections would only add to their misery.

Now my current insurer says $272 but I won’t believe it until I see the policy in hand. I’m suspecting I was misquoted and this amount covers me to the end of my policy that expires in June.
Insurer made a mistake. This only covered me for three months. Annual premium $794! So I’m paying $1500 a year for the two bikes. Yikes!

If Progressive makes money with me paying $171 or less annually, I have to wonder where your money is going. Your rates can’t be just to cover an accident.

For liability and accident benefits, both mandatory in the province.
It still seems very high to me. Five years ago, I drove head on into a truck. I did $7,500 damage to the truck. I rode to the hospital in an ambulance. I got checked out at the ER. Everyone got paid. I did not cover the bike, so I ate that. Even in Georgia, my insurance isn’t 20% of what you pay and I fully understand all policies are not created equal. I’m sure there’s a difference in voluntary v. mandatory coverage. Still, it doesn’t reconcile in my head.

In Ontario, you are required to insure the bike for 12 months. So if you look at the cost for the riding season (maybe 6 months) it’s crazy expensive. That’s like $140/month riding.☹️
Hi bosco,
after you've paid the yearly fee can you surrender the plate for a refund when the snow flies?

Not sure, maybe sell the bike back and forth to my wife and leaving it uninsured fir the winter? I’ll have to think about that.

Dang it. Here in Fl., my full coverage on my Road King through State Farm is less than $400. I like Canada but.......

Just got my insurance bill for all the older bikes I run.... 20 plus years old.... from JC Taylor. Ten motorcycles.. agreed too value... full coverage..... $43.oo each for the year. I have never filed a claim in all the years I had JC Taylor so can't report what they're " service " would be. My RE Bullet insurance bill ( 2 weeks ago ).... $104.oo...full coverage... for the year. The Interceptor bill hasn't hit my mailbox yet.

Lots of insurance fraud. I think they busted a Chinese ring in Toronto a few years ago and billions of dollars were involved. It's always easier to screw the honest people to recoup the losses.

There have been a few sweetheart deals for the insurance companies over the past decade as well where you had the option of getting half the coverage for the same rate, or you ate a steep increase to keep what you had. Like most industries in Canada, insurance is controlled by a relatively few large companies, all very cozy, or it's government run in some provinces. Some good, some bad stories about that setup.

When I added my bike to my other insurance I was not at all hurt by the number, I posted it up thread, $160 I think. The company is not a fly by night operation. They have the tallest flagpole in the US, 400 feet.
