Hi there, this is my first time working on motorcycles and I need a bit of advice. I'm trying to remove my starter gear cover to replace a gasket and I cant quite get it off because of the chain guide. Can anyone help me figure out how to remove it? See attached picture of what I'm talking about.

Thanks!

There's another fastener holding it besides the one you already removed. It's a nut on a stud at the right rear .....

You don't need to remove it, just loosen it and the guard will slip out.

Ginchey---You have removed one of the bolts now you need to loosen a nut to the right of the shifter shaft. Now pull out the chain guide.....

Awesome I got it off!

Another issue that arose after I put everything back together is that the gear shifter doesn't "click" to indicate the change of gears.

Any particular reason why this would happen? I know that the chain became loose after moving it around to remove the plate.
