I wanted to change the seat on my 1981, but I didn't find any I really liked and didn't want to have to do too much frame work, so I figured I'd have that clunky, chunky, 1980s seat cut down and recovered. The local auto upholstery place was good, reasonably priced ($175), and quick with the turnaround. Sadly, my great idea of getting the seat done in blue doesn't seem to be such a hot choice. I think I gotta go back to black...

The great dilemma of the Special seat conversions.
Shame they didn't stick with the '79 Special seat/ tail light configuration. I believe that was the apex for the Special seat......all downhill after that.

+1 on carving the seat. Too short coupled, to be comfortable in the stock configuration.
If you spin your phone fast enough you can see it upright for a moment. . . .
