Shifter question

Hi, I am starting to get things back together on the engine, and I was trying to realign the shifter mechanism,

The part where the spring rides on that you are supposed to loosen the nut and then turn the slotted shaft to make an adjustment.

I loosened the nut , but the shaft doesn't move at all , what would be the cause of that ? And how to fix it?

Most likely stuck from age. Make sure you have a screwdriver that fills the slot and just keep working it back and forth. It should eventually give up.
How far off is the shifter?

It doesn’t look too far off,
Maybe 16th of an inch or less ,

Just trying to address as much as possible along the way.
