Morning Guys,
now i have my rolling Chassis rolling (and it sure looks good with the 16inch rear wheel and XS750 front end!)
its time to take on the task of the engine rebuild.

I'm looking for basic photos of the very first stages i.e. top crankcase, crank insert, primary and secondary shafts and most importantly the fork selectors and selector shafts
Keeping in mind, my bike came with a totally dismantled engine, which has been blasted and painted - the manuals are very poor at showing how to assemble as they rightly assume you have dismantled it!
I can use the parts microfiche from CMSNL to ensure i have all the parts, the things i'm unsure of though are Bearing locater rings, woodruff keys and fork gear positioning for assembly

Once i have the crankcase halves closed successfully, the rest should be straightforward

Thanks

Hans Pahl's The Yamaha XS650 Engine doesn't assume that the reader did the disassembly himself. It covers disassembly, inspection, and assembly procedures separately and in detail. With157 well written pages and more than 400 very clear and detailed color photos, the book is hands down the best XS650 motor manual out there. It's available from Amazon and it will pay for itself in time saved and mistakes avoided.

There are also some good vids on line that detail the order in which a motor is pulled apart or assembled.

I won’t speak as to their rightness or wrongness but it’ll get you a good idea or what goes where and when to install it. pair them with a good Manuel/parts diagram and it’ll get you sorted.

thanks guys, too hot for a ginger/grey person like me to venture in the garage for the next few days unfortuntely! (Doesnt always rain over here) so will review all the suggested above.
I think the bike, in its project status has changed hands a few times, before it got to me. Ive done a reasonable review of whats there, but i can imagine smaller items could be absent :( wont be as bad as the whole front end though :D
