tuning help/introduction

howdy everyone, this is my first bike and i am looking for a little support in fixing it up...
my motor back fires when i give it a little throttle,i know there is 2 screws that i have to turn but i don't know which way to turn them or how much.
by the way i am running uni pod filters, headers

does any one know how i could tell the ignition is good or bad??
and how to i check timing??
also my bike seems to idle for like 10 min then it cuts out and dies

You need to get a shop manual and read it. Everything you've asked so far is in there and then some. If you get hung up on some parts, then ask a question. No one's going to re-write the whole manual out for you here. The factory shop manual is about the best. There's a copy on-line here for free .....
