What have you done to your XS today?

Made some good progress on my '74 this weekend. 35mm fork swap and tapered head bearing install complete. The forks were rebuilt with Racetech springs and cartridge emulators.

Next major steps are getting the Brembo caliper installed and a complete rewire.

Where did you source the headlight and brackets? It looks perfect.

Oops left the shed door ajar yesterday.

It's like swallows to Capistrano at the shed of ill repute.
Kicks through with some compression both sides.
Think I've already found it a pass it forward home.
Went to a new home, it's now running in a 76 chassis. That darned Bill is a rocket mech!

Well, it is more difficult when there's weight on them and they're compressed a little.

Stripped out two days of wiring work on the handle bar controls......
Because I missed a two line paragraph in the M-Gadget Speedo manual that states ‘needs a programme button not supplied’. F’ Fu*ks sake........ :banghead:

I have a spare button on the Revival right hand cluster........ Just don’t ask.

Yes, parts like these are expensive in the UK, more's the pity. However, I wondered if I'd ever see one of these turn up so I took the opportunity ....

Fitted a TX750 swing arm to Miss November. Bought it though ebay from some bloke in Germany, can't remember what I paid.

There's a few differences from the XS650 s/arm - why not take a look at what I did https://www.xs650.com/threads/miss-november-xs2-tribute.55057/post-663415 and sporadically thereafter.

As well as relocating the torque arm mount, had to modify the chainguard mount. Also, embraced @5twin's suggestion and fitted a grease nipple under the pivot tube.

Has it made a major improvement to the bike's handling? How the hell would I know, I don't ride hard enough to evaluate issues like frame flex. I suppose it's just nice to know you've got a nice stiff one in there, so to speak?

I found the 750 swingarm made a bigger difference on my Standard than on my Special. My theory is that the more laid down Special shocks triangulate better with the swingarm and frame, making for a stiffer set-up, even with the stock arm.

Rewired the handle bar switch gear to include the sodding config wire and switch for the M-Gadget speedo!
Its funny; the re-wire took just half a day, not the two days of the first attempt.
At last I can begin the rest of the wiring loom to get my bike running again.
Its started raining too; summer must be over in Blighty.

Did some piddling.
After changing out the mains and pilots to accommodate the free flowing exhaust and Uni's, I've noticed on a couple of occasions a sort of stall when decelerating. An example is after a good stretch of road doing 55/60 mph and then dropping into a secondary road of maybe 20mph at max for a mile or so. No hanging of throttle but more of a flooding-but no dead stall. A couple of revs, maybe a drop in gear and then a return of "normal". The last time it was cross country, 4th and 5th, 35mph or so and then a long decline from the ridge down to the river bottoms.....that slow decline. Felt like she might stall.

Other than that the response is perfect. Winding out in all gears no problem, slowed to 35 in 5th and then just increase the throttle without a downshift - no problem, no bogging. Neutral is right there.....always, just a nudge down from second.

I pulled the slides and leaned them 38's one slot up from stock center. There's two runs that will be my test the next time out.

OK, enough of the cryptic references, just showing off. Several years ago, before I retired, I bought a big block kit from XS650Direct, and put it on the shelf. A year ago Christmas, I assembled same (and then had to hire a guy to carry it up out of the basement - good thing I am not into to boats).
I had a bare 78 Special frame with title that was waiting to be used, so after a year of fits and starts, I had this ready to wire.

Side covers will be switched to black ones, exhaust has been changed again.
Since it was a TCI motor, I am using a harness I got at the Paris Rally in June, and have a weak occasional spark. So on to a weekend of trouble shooting, my plan was to get it fired on the TCI and then switch to the gonzo iggy, but I have all the bits for the latter, plus they are new, so may just jump right into that.
