Sorry if this is somewhere's on the site.

So, the 1981 SH model, has the multi-part brake line to the front brake.

What I'm wondering is...was the break up of the line done for aesthetics to keep the line from getting all wild?

If I was to remove item #12, the joint, and just run a single line from master cylinder to the caliper, that's not a problem right?

Part of this question is to also help me mark which parts I need to powder coat.

Thanks!

Many folks, me included, get rid of the joint or union and run a single line from the M/C to the front caliper. I'm not sure what the reason was for the union except possibly to protect more of the line from wear or abuse. Not an issue for me.

The union gave a place to split off a second line for the dual disc versions sold in Europe. I think it was also an option for U.S. bikes if you wanted to spend the extra bucks. Honestly, these bikes don't need that second disc. The single set-up, with a good line and clean components, is a wonderful stopper. Even the stock pads are very good.
