Cam Stuck

Attempting to break down my motor for a rebuild. I've taken the rocker box off and the next step would be to remove the cam. I've completely removed the cam chain tensioner but the cam chain is still on way too tight. I can barely get it to wiggle. Additionally it's so tight I can't even lift it up enough to pull the bearings out and remove it that way. Is there anything I'm overlooking causing it to be that tight still or is my only option now to break the chain?

I've had one or two engines that had chains that tight. Always decided to cut the chain instead of risking damage to the cam...

could stack washers to simulate the thickness of the head on the head bolts. then that way you would be compressing the engine back together, but the head will still be off to get the chain off.
