Engine Oil For a XS-650 and XS-500.

I use Mobil1 15W50 automobile oil year round in my all my bikes.

I use 20W50 Yamalube oil in my XS2 and my V-Star 1100.

Unless you plan on riding at temperatures below 50F, Pennzoil 20W50 automobile oil can be used all year round. You just have to be sure and warm up the engine thoroughly before riding and keep the revs down (<2,500) even while warming up the engine because of the possibility of sucking a hole in the sump screen if you over rev with cold, thick oil.

20w-50 motorcycle oil. It's a motorcycle, it's got a wet clutch, the gearbox uses the engine oil for lubrication. Motorcycle labled oil is formulated properly, the car oils are a guess that may or may not be as good.

I just picked up some 20w-50 AMSoil full synthetic motorcycle oil. Going that route. I run AMSoil 15w-50 in my car and have been pretty happy with it;s durability as an oil.
