Frame Dimensions, Drawings

In 79 they had 3 models. The standard, a special and a special II.
The standard had spoke wheels, drum brakes on the rear, side hinge seat.
The Special had mags with disc brake rear, seat tipped up from the rear and lifted off.
The Special II was a combonation of parts from the standard and special.
They did this for a couple years. This phenomenum confuses lots of people.
Kinda like they had extra parts left over after making the standards and Specials, put the parts together and called it a Special II

Been digesting all the Frame Difference posts here the past couple of days and found info on everything except the measurement area I need for a project.

Is the spacing between the frame front down tubes (center-to-center) the same uniformly, from front motor mount section to bottom (as it gets progressively wider at bottom, transitioning to the horizontal section) on the early ‘70-‘73 frames and ‘74 and later Standard model frames?

Area in question is just the mid-down tubes to bottom of frame, roughly where the front oil drain plug is looking at bike from front.

Unlikely. The early frames had the lower mount going through those tubes under the engine. Later models had the mount welded to the top of the tubes. Makes me think the early ones would be slightly further apart.

who came up with this shit! hahah..
I always found it hard to see in metric to visualize from standard but this thread reminds of a time where I got to feel the difference. I spent some time stationed at a seaport in Kuwait when I was in the army. We were security for the port and had to patrol in Humvees. The max speed limit posted was 50 which seemed high but I was like "when in Rome" so I'm hauling ass on these little stretches of road. I came to a screeching stop at a stop sign and my squad leader, who had been nodding off in the passenger seat, gives me this annoyed look and says "Use the little numbers!" . He was reffering to the speedometer.
