I just signed up, so I hope this post is okay. I didn't see anything in the rules, so here goes.
Last spring I bought a 1977 XS650 at an estate sale. I knew it was a cool bike I had always admired and it looked to be in great shape. The owner had bought it about 20 years ago in Boise as a collecters item and had stored it ever since. After a good cleaning, the bike is in almost mint original condition. Someone had preserved the tank with a coating, so there is no rust inside. The only rust I can find anywhere is a couple small spots on the handlebars. The engine had new oil in it. I took the carbs out and ultrasonic cleaned them and replaced the rubber diaphragms. I replaced all the fuel lines and the gas tank petcocks. Of course it needed a new battery and even though the tires were like new, I replaced them with new rubber. I replaced the rubber handlebar dampers, the battery box dampers, and the side cover dampers. I upgraded the front brake pads with Vesrah sintered metal pads. The bike has 8186 miles on it. EVERYTHING works. The motor starts instantly and runs great, quiet and tight, no smoke. It looks like it has never been down. All the chrome is excellent, no rust. Pipes are mint. Seat is perfect. There are a couple of very small scratches on top of the gas tank, which is otherwise perfect. All electrics work.
I thought I would keep it, but I am more of a dirt bike guy, so I have decided to sell it and get a dual sport bike instead.
What do you think a bike like this is worth? I have lots more hi-res pics if anyone wants to see more detail.
Thanks for your time and expertise.
