What exhaust are you running and is that an Omar's seat? What's the longest you've ridden it with that seat? Good lookin' bike BTW.

Please take this to PM or "New to me XS650". Project 72 is a seperate thread and I discovered he is a very near neighbor and we should not bomb his thread as he re enters the foolishness of the XS650 world.Got any more pics?
He friend had some issues with a title also. Titles never got transferred from person to person. He found the original owner in a nursing home and had him sign some papers the state required. Only condition was he wanted to see the bike when completed.I am submitting my paperwork for a bonded title Monday. I don’t want to put any money into it until get a response from the state.
Make sure you make it 100% clear to them that the gas cap bung is made from aluminum. The tank is steel, but the bung is an aluminum ring that is swaged in place... it can't be removed without destroying it. Many of these places use an acid tank (dip) to remove everything inside the tank. I've read of several cases where the tank was pulled from the dip and the bung was MIA.... it dissolved in the acid. I think I'd even go so far as to write "aluminum in magic marker with arrows pointing to the bung.Probably will dump the tank , remove the petcocks and cap, and get tank ready for shipping.
And then take a picture so you can prove they were warned.............write "aluminum in magic marker with arrows pointing to the bung.
Thanks !
It wouldn’t surprise me if I end up spending more money on the tank then the rest of the project. I knew from the start that a ‘72 would be an expensive model to get going.
Hi tW,View attachment 209899I am lead to believe it is an Omars exhaust..
You could fill the dent and spray?Took the petcocks apart. They were plugged up with what looks like a combination of tank sealer, rust, dirt, and chewing gum. An hour in the ultrasound today and blowing out with air got maybe 50% out. Probably just replace with new ones.
I got an estimate for getting the one dent removed from the tank: $300.00 and no guarantee that tank won’t be destroyed. Guess I will live with the dent.
