Quietride helmet review.

Not sure if noise canceling headsets would work against wind noise. Bit of a different animal...
Wore a pair of Bose noise cancelers in the right seat of a Ford Trimotor.... middle of summer.... winders down. Yes, they handled wind noise as well as engine noise. Not sure you'd want to hack a $1000 headset for your helmet though. :cautious:

I was thinking of those wireless ear pods that you can get for iPhones. They have a noise cancelling mode, are very small and may just plug into your ears without any modification being required to your helmet or head:

OK, I'll take one for the team.

Going to order these wireless Burstaudio2 Bluetooth noise-cancelling earbuds.

Wish me luck...

Update.
I've been had, it's a scam.
Avoid...

Update 2.
*Whew*, I was able to cancel the order.
Thanx to the power of PayPal...

Many years ago in Illinois headphones in a helmet were illegal. I'm talking very early 80's. Not sure if that has changed? Once wearing headphones in my helmet snowmobiling I had a near accident because of enjoying REO Speedwagon. Once a summer later on my bike, another near accident while enjoying Bob Seger. Never again after that. It did so happen both were Kawasaki's. A Invader sled, and a KZ750 four. Maybe it was the hi perfomance Kawi's fault?

Most definatly the Quackers:thumbsdown:...........I always blame someone else for my accidents :D.

I cant listen to music for to long. It affects my tinitus. i get off on the sound of the wind and bike and find with out ear plugs, the tinitus isn't to bad, even after 100 mile ride

Alvin from QuietRide sent this out last week:
For the last two years I have been testing aviation quality active noise cancelling (ANC) technology installed in original passive (no electronics) Quiet Ride ear muffs that were installed in Quiet Ride Helmets.
Discovery - The original passive (no electronics) Quiet Ride ear muffs reduce sound levels by around 50% at all speeds up to 100 mph (160 kph). Aviation quality ANC technology installed in earmuffs in a Quiet Ride Helmet or installed in your personal helmet will reduce sound levels by an additional 50% The test data in attachments to this email show if you wear a helmet with ANC earmuffs the decibel sound level will be 75% to 80% lower at ears at all speeds and for the first time will meet OSHA and the World Health Organizations (WHO) recommendations for sound levels that will not damage hearing when cruising up to 70 mph (112 kph)
Here is a link to Quiet Ride ANC/BT earmuff kit Kickstarter website that will be available for pre-buy discounts for 30 days starting May 15th

Justa lil' update.
Mostly an FYI for Al and gggGary.

I have my QuiteRide pump and release valve mounted on the back of my helmet.
Pump-Release.jpg
Out of the way, out of the wind, easy to access.

Earlier this year, the release valve would get harder to press, and wouldn't hold pressure. Replaced it with a 2nd spare unit. Then, last month, the same thing, hard to press and leaking.

Took the 1st unit apart, simply pull the brass plunger out. There's a tiny egg-shaped ball on the stem. Apparently these things are assembled by simply pressing the ball-end thru the hole at the top of the valve body. The plastic hole is small enuff to capture the ball, creating the seal.

Coupla problems here. The spring is a bit too stiff, and its sharp end digs into the plastic seal, distorting the hole. Should be using a weaker spring, with flush ground ends.

And, the backside of the egg-shaped ball is rough, and has too shallow of an angle. The strong spring pulls it out too hard, eventually causing it to wedge tightly in the hole. A manufacturing quality issue. Should be ball-shaped and smooth.

So, I bored-out the plastic valve body, made a better valve from brass, and press/glued it into the body.

Works great.

Here's the parts used to fix the 2nd valve.

It's a little longer, to hold a plug.

Removing the plug grants access to disassemble the valve for cleaning, if need be...

You the man! Both my Quietrides have slow leakdowns. Al sent extra parts but the problem persists. I put them on the bench for attention but the Round tuit never shows up. I tried to graft a Sena bluetooth into one speaker system but failed to make lasting connections, the fuzzy wire core in the sena makes for tricky soldering. :poo:
