I'm adding a second rotor with a caliper from a Yamaha SR-500. So I now have 2 matching calipers but one is missing the thin metal shims... even needed?

Don't think there's an issue running without them. Even pad wear and perhaps squeak reduction were the reasons they are in there?

Thanks for responding gggGary! Yeah if my memory serves me well, the shims are for anti-squeeling... even wear huh? Hadn't though of that but that is a good thing... when I order new pads I can get new shims too. Meanwhile, I am inclined to run what I have without shims, but it would be great to hear if anyone else has done that. I seem to remember lot's of bikes not even having the shims.
