I have found that it’s a PITA to remove the front wheel because I have a twin disc arrangement. The UK 75 B models came with twin discs but I believe they were a small diameter disc, mine has two full size discs and it’s impossible to remove the wheel through the gap between the callipers. Which means removing one calliper which in turn means removing the mudguard and rotating one fork slider to enable the calliper bolt to come free of the slider.
Did a bit of thinking and came up with an alternative calliper mounting for the RH calliper top bolt. Now I should be able to take out both studs, slide the calliper out of the way and remove the wheel.

I have had an XS1100 for many years. Wheel removal requires removal of mudguard and calipers as you say, however caliper removal on the 11 Special is a single bolt operation. I once thought about doubling up on the XS650. Not anymore.

Side question... how often and why are you removing your front wheel so much it is a big problem?

That was a nice solution. Should’ve been engineered that way to begin with eh?

Now THAT is a great idea Rasputin - I'm swipin' it for my own cafe project (if I ever get back to it....).

Many thanks,

Pete

I have a TX750 as well but, it only has one disc. To remove the front wheel on the TX takes say 5 mins tops. To remove the front wheel on the XS takes a good 25/30 min and it’s such a pain to remove the mudguard.
Imagine a situation where you had a puncture in your front wheel, if your lucky an aerosol repair will do but if the tube is damaged, wheels got to come out.
Not an everyday occurrence I’ll grant you.

To be honest the twin set up is not that much better than the single disc on my TX750, and that’s quite a bit heavier.

I added a second disc to my SG. To take the wheel off I have to remove both calipers and one of thier brackets.

....true Rudi but I think that Rasputin’s very simple modification would make it much easier to undo that jigsaw puzzle.

3 or 4 bolts and the wheel is out after the axle is removed. Don't need to remove the fender. Not a big deal to me.

I may be wrong, but I belive that oem stud is M10x1.25. What size is that new bolt, M8?
That will be a fairly significant reduction in both shear strength and clamping force.
I am sceptical when it comes to compromizing strength in the brake setup.
An alternative would be a regular bolt in the stock dimension, with a spacer of the same thickness as the original hex section.
