We did that out in the hallway. Our classrooms had glass windows.
On a frigid winter night a car horn stuck on at 3AM, already in my teens I woke in a cold sweat thinking IT had happened. Hope no other generations have to go though thinking THAT could happen..
The grade school I went to , the class rooms had brick walls with a bank of windows above. We had to line up single file and crouch down like that. I remember doing that many times…..horrible!
The neighborhood I grew up in had a community park in the center of it and a basement that was a designated fallout shelter, on top of the building was a tall pole with huge air raid sirens, every day a 12 noon that air raid siren would go off for about 15 seconds. You could hear that thing from five miles away.
