1979 Yamaha XS 1100 Special :yikes:

NADA pegs the '79 1100 at $3610 in excellent condition.

Their definition of excellent...
"This category is reserved for concourse or show quality machines only"

Asking $15,000 sounds like he doesn't really want to sell it. ;)
... that or he's an effin idiot.

I'd be seriously interested at $3610.
'79 was the fastest year for XS1100's because in 1980 the brought in new emissions regulations.
That's why the XS750 became the XS850 in 1980.

Was one (79) here in KC about a year ago that I went and looked at. Rode the XS there, so he let me take it for a ride. It was about a nice as this one. He was asking $1900.
They're out there.

He could EASILY sell that for $5-6k with the right buyer. Prices have been getting higher (at least in my area) and it does look very well taken care of. One owner and good maintenance count for something, but putting a price that high will get any serious buyer to pass right by the ad.

But honey I'm trying to sell It !!

I think that guy is crazy. At least he gave us something to talk about. He barely rode it though at only 9000 miles. Weird in my books.

It can also have the effect that oil seals have dried up Especially valve stem seals .. Making a trail of smoke behind the machine should someone try to ride it.
Which perhaps someone find it worth to haul to a shop fix
And the price is what someone wants to pay.. There are Museums and Collectors.
But Mr Jim had an price indication post #3608
For those sums asked a Honda CBX could be an alternative . A bike that can keep its value even .
Nice bike though
.

Regarding the XS1100, seat of the pants, I can't tell one from the other. They're all fast if maintained. If he can get $15,000, I'll sell mine too! The Triumph 1200 Speed Twin could replace it. What I see in the real world is XS11s aren't bringing much at all right now. If you want one, now is the time. Just not that one at $15K. The kids are buying them cheap and destroying them.

I try to check Craigslist every day. Forgot to check yesterday. Look what popped up.
'74 RD350 basket case. Complete, chambers and an extra motor.... 500 bucks. Exactly what I'm lookin' for.
Hell, the pipes and extra motor are worth the ask. Called and left a message. No response so far. About a hundred mile from nowhere, so maybe.....
