Sensible engine decision (now top end refresh)

I think you used the right pins, but I think you were warned about using that small breaker pin. Seems common for them to bend or break, but this is the first I've heard of them mushrooming out. Pretty good use instructions are available from Motion Pro .....

Good replacement pins are also available, so don't condemn your tool yet, lol. Mine may have been a bit better one to start (got it from Mike's years ago) but it works lots better now with Motion Pro pins.

Well, POO! I mucked that up. So the top has to come off.

Yes Sir...
Famous --not the last words ... but the first words
It won’t be long!
2 or 3 days figuring out the ignition and other wiring .. ..which can be a good thing kicking and scratching the head so the oil gets distributed
And the carburetors gets the " Soaking "
I had my trigger wires crossed to the Boyer ignition .Which made me nervous for a while. Nothing .. Took a while to figure out.
A couple of loud bangs perhaps.
And then the retightening .. dare I guess the Oil feed connection front low ..
But it looks good..

To me, this is the most exciting part to a rebuild, right when you're putting the final touches on and getting ready to fire it up. Remember, you'll want/need to do several head bolt torque checks within the first 1000 miles or so. And do the 1st one rather quickly, in about 50 to 100 miles or several heat cycles.

This is how I remember it when it was new. I’ve attempted to replicate that without spending too much time on it. The carburetors are also black. All done with VHT black pearl. I hope it holds up.
Video of the first start?

I have used a similar VHT product and it has held up pretty good. I picked a light color and it did discolor a little on the jugs, but that's it. Won't be a problem on your black engine. I have also exposed a few test pieces to gasoline and their engine enamel can withstand it fairly well. That being said, I still do my best to keep gas off of it!

I have misplaced my replacement oil cooler. The dealer installed it before I took delivery. That cooler was damaged at the Ozark rally maybe two years ago, so I bought a replacement. It looked easier than deleting it. Meanwhile, I have a few other items to address, including a broken rear signal. Yes, I should get a 1st start video.

I don’t have enough ass to kick this thing. I started it a few times. Took video with my iPhone. Maybe I’ll figure out how to upload it to YouTube. I click the upload button and the only option it gives me is a snow video from a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, I’m charging the battery.

It’s loud. I’ll be adjusting the valves before I start it again. The carburetors have to come off too. They’re hanging up at the bottom. It was running on one cylinder due to paint around the spark plug holes.
How much compression that damn things got?
You may to start eating meat and fats.:lmao:

Trust me, fat and meat are the biggest part of my diet. I’m going to have to increase my frequency at CrossFit. I weigh 200 lbs and I can stand on the kicker!
