Just received my 1972 GS650. Good news is the frame and engine match, bad news is the cylinder does not have 750 stamped on it. Also the engine is locked up. More later.

Just got the engine out. No 750. Just a 650cc. I would like to go back as a 750. Anyone have a GS650 cylinder and pistons, etc?

That’s really disappointing but also somewhat expected I guess. Have you any way of tracking down the previous owners?? I’d say that’s gonna be your only hope to getting your hands on those cylinders.

Going to ask a rookie question here, but my knowledge on the gs is non-existent. Is it possible the 650 cylinders are punched to 750 at the factory? With the motor being seized maybe pull it out and check the cylinder bore size? Just thinking out loud here.

Suposed to b. Factory ground off the 653 lettering on the front of the cylinders and stamped 754. Put 750 liners in there with 750 pistons. Had to make 200 for the street market to comply with racing requirements to be able to say they are racing a factory produced road bike.

Don't know a lot either, but this bike has the vin sticker and it has GS650 written on it and the frame # matches the motor so it looks like the barrels got changed, (and they used a standard set of barrels), in the last 39 years some time

Who sales the liners and the rest that I will need? The top end is apart.
Thanks guys.

The bore size is 653cc, not 750.

MikesXS sells 750 sleeves for $150.00 US, + postage, each.

Then its how much you want to spend on pistons..............

650 Direct sell them for $111.00 US.each + postage...........That's $80 US cheaper than MikesXS...........Save another $20.00 getting the 80mm pistons from 650Direct.

Getting the engine completed. Had to order a couple of gaskets. Xs650direct.com are a great and fast place to get parts.

Shine a light down the filler at the sides and see if there's any weld seams? If it's clean metal you got a real oddball there.
You ever figure out the tank oddity Bill?
